300 Days to 300 Vegas: BHFS!

I really loved doing the previous 300 days to 300 using freestyle equipment so I’ve decided to have at it again; only this time I’ll be attempting it using bowhunter freestyle equipment!  The ultimate goal is to head to the Vegas Shoot in 2013 more prepared than ever.

Equipment:

  • 2007 Hoyt Ultra-Elite bow (have they ever made a better target bow?)
  • Axcel Armortech sight
  • Vendetta Archery Enforcer stabilizer
  • Carter “The Hammer” release
  • Gold Tip Ultralight 22 arrows with Norway Mini-Fusion 4-fletch vanes

Things started of a whole lot better than I had hoped!  I was on fire this round (at least for me!) and shot 297 with 20x.  On end 3 I started to drift off target on the 3rd shot (top face) and ended up pulling one right.  I should have let down on that one as soon as I drifted off, but before I could consciously make that decision the shot was executed.

Now for the doozy, end 8 first arrow.  I really have no idea what happened here but that arrow took off into nowhere and ended up being an eight.  I can say how disgusted I was with the shot and even more disturbed that I couldn’t say *why* it went so bad.  Sometimes you just make a terrible shot!

Analysis:  I can tell already that the real challenge is going to be covering the X with the pin.  When I shoot freestyle I use a circle on my scope because I like looking at the X and can concentrate better that way.  With pins, covering the X is much harder for me mentally.

When shooting 3D or animals I don’t seem to have an issue with covering the point I want to hit.  However, when shooting spots my mind goes into a different mode and covering the X is more of a mental block.  We’ll see how this works out over time.

you sed that covering the X on spot shooting is a little mental block. my girlfriend was having the same problem as she is just getting in to the sport. I toled her to put the pin just under the X . it help her to group up better but for a 300 goal I would see if the pin would fit in between the two botum lages of the X.
I am not a 300 shooter by any means but it help her to grop better so I thought maybe it will help with your block . let me know if you think it is a good idea or if it could be a problem down the road. I really don’t won’t to give her bad habits from bad advice. she is a clean slate so I am really trying to teacher her good form. the best I can with what little I know and read.
