Bowtech also released the Assassin SD.  This is basically a “Short Draw” version of the assassin.

2012 Bowtech Assassin SD2012 Bowtech Assassin SD Specs

Speed: 305 FPS (@ 27″)

For comparison, here are the stats of the Assassin:

Brace Height 7”
Draw Length 26-30”
Draw Weights 50, 60 , 70

And the Heartbreaker:
Speed 305 FPS (@27″)

Draw Length 22 1/2” to 27″
Draw Weights 40, 50, 60
Weight 3.7 lbs.
Let-Off 65-80%
MSRP $649

The difference between the Assassin SD and the Heartbreaker is virtually nothing by the specs, other than the Assassin SD goes up to 70 lbs. whereas the Heartbreaker tops out at 60 lbs.   The Assassin (both varieties) only comes in camo and black, whereas the Hearbreaker also comes in pink and inferno.  The website also notes that the target colors do NOT come RAK (Ready, Aim, Kill) packages.

It appears the SD version of the Assassin is mostly to appeal to shorter draw archers, while not burdening them with a “girl’s” bow.  Whatever the case, all three appear to be great bows for 2012 and Bowtech made an absolute killing in the market with them last year.

Other Bowtech info and rumors

Bowtech’s website is also touting an unveiling on November 15.  What exactly that will be, no one seems to really know!  They do have a big picture of a chained down box on a crate that has numerous broadhead looking holes in it, that bounces and bangs around like some animal.

2012 Bowtech Insane

**UPDATE**  So the countdown is over, the box burst open, and we see…..no bow!  Just text saying that the Insane will be release January 10th, 2012, 9:30 AM EST at the ATA show.  Also, there is one shop that will have an Insane on hand to show to customers at 10 AM EST: Fisherman’s Warehouse in Columbus, OH.  Apparently they will have a demo model Insane and will be having a giveaway of sorts for those who show up to try the new bow.

From the posts I’ve read on message boards and FaceBook, Bowtech either gained a ton by building up suspense, or made a lot of angry people by just teasing more!

A few rumors are starting to circulate about the new line: apparently some dealers have received a flier with some information on the 2012 bows. It looks like there will be two completely new bows, though no real information is given on them other than that the details will be released at a later date. The D340 seems to be gone from the line.

True to their recent form, Bowtech is starting off teasing us with videos alluding to the 2012 line, but without many details just yet.  Last year’s protagonist was “The Assassin” with several cameos from a plate of jerky.  What will this year hold? Apparently some new goofy guy that somehow has something to do with the Assassin since he wears an assassin cloak. He mumbles in something akin to an alien voice. The good news is that the jerky is back…

Teaser number two: (let the cheese flow!)

And teaser number three!

Last but not least, the final teaser:

It would seem that the mystery employee may have something to do with the Assassin SD perhaps, seeing as his license plate had “SD” on it and he’s not exactly blessed in the height department. But with Bowtech and their quirky videos, who knows!

Another interesting note from the videos: if you look at the titles at the beginnings they go: “Life is Updated”, “Life is Short”, “Life is a Competition” and “Life Outside Work.” It seems to allude to the updated version of the Assassin, the Assassin SD.

The last video appears to allude to something new and different (assuming our friend from the first three equates to the Assassin SD) and the only real hint we get is the license plate on the truck carrying the chained down safe: “INSANE”  Possibly the name of the new flagship for 2012?

P.S. Someone should tell him that he entered a bull elk in a big BUCK contest ;)

16 November came and its gone. The countdown to drive an archer insane!
I feel you can not tell some one he/she is getting something and then you only give the wrapper.

Hah! Eddie, you are not alone in your feelings. While it may be a bit cruel, it seems to work as a marketing ploy because they sure get a lot of attention for it.

Has anyone done a review on the 2012 Assassin SD? What would the speed be at 60 pounds at 26.5 inch draw?

I have a Bowtech General , it is a good bow but I had a lot of problems with it and Bowtech did not do anything to help me , I tried , its time to get a new bow and I am not sure what to get. I shot a new Bowtech and its a nice bow but I am not sure I am ready to spend a $ 1000 with this company I wish Bowtech would have helped me out in the past , not sure on what to buy !

It does not matter what bow you buy, at any stage some one will fail to help.
In my opinion I will try to resolve the problem with the manufacture and not a bow shop.
I droped my next PSE for Hoyt and thus far I had no problems with aftersales service.

I am shooting an old Darton 30mx bow I`ve had for 25 years,I`ts slow and noisy. The problem I`m having is finding a quailty left handed bow most makers don`t have (lefty) bows. Any suggestions where to look?

Every major bow manufacturer will have left hand versions of nearly all of their bows. The problem is not that they aren’t made, it’s that most shops don’t stock them. If you call around to shops you can probably find some left hand bows to try out to get at least some idea of what is out there. You can also go to the classified section of ArcheryTalk.com where they have an entire section devoted to lefties!

Jayden, Unfortunately Archery Report doesn’t have any say in the price of Bowtech bows! You’ll have to take that up with them or your local dealer ;)
